Honolulus Adventures, Himalaya 1

Today we will fly between high mountains, our destination is Gilgit (OPGT) in Pakistan. The airport has an altitude of 4781ft.

Takeoff in Samarqand.

more and more snowy mountains are appearing... and they are very high.



 For the approach we must dive into the valleys, and we must find the right valley, which leads us to the Airport.

at the flank of the mountains we see the Shandur-Gilgit-Road.


Flying in the valleys is like riding a rollercoaster :-)

The next flight goes to Leh.

Takeoff in Gilgit, the clouds are below the airport....

We are approaching the first 8000m-mountain of our journey, the Nanga Parbat

we are at FL270!!!

An impressive giant, made of rock and ice...

 now we are enroute to Leh, the highest airfield of our journey. VILH has an altitude of 10682ft.

again we are diving into the valleys....

and the first "go around" of this journey. The first attempt to land was too high and too fast, I underestimated the effects of the high altitude.
But.... we landed in Leh...

The next flight leds us out of the Himalaya to Dehli (VIDP).

the mountains are getting lower and we leave the Himalaya

and we see the lowlands.

in the final to VIDP  we see the takeoff of a Learjet 45.

After landing and taxiing to the apron I have to cross the runway 10/26. Here I have to wait for a landing Baron 58.



so we are taxiing in pairs :-)

In the second part of the Himalaya-flights we will visit Kathmandu and Paro.

Honolulus Adventures, Middle East

Now we are in the Middle East, in Antalya. The next destination is Malatya (LTAT).

After takeoff in Antalya we are flying along the south coast of Turkey.

In the background Cyprus is to see.

In front of the airplane we see the Karadag (The Black Mountain) and the lake in the background is a swamp lake, the Hotamis Gölü.

Approaching LTAT, the lake is the Karakaya Baraji, a barrier lake.

The next destination is LTCI at the Van-Lake

Some clouds are appearing, in the valleys I can see fog.

We are approaching the Van-Lake the landscape is volcanic.
The fog-layer is thick.

Here we see the crater lake of the Nemrut, a volcano.

Approaching the airport is not so easy.....

But... I found it!

The next flight goes from LTCI to Baku (UBBB)

Ready for takeoff! We are at a height of 5478ft, so we are higher than the cloudbase.
This flight will be a volcanic ride :-)

We are flying next to Mount Süphan, the second highest volcano of Turkey.

It's a big mountain....

Our next leg goes across the Caspian Sea to Asgabat in Turkmenistan.

Oh, there are some big colleagues in Baku...

We are now in the Orient ?  :-)

We are flying over great deserts.

Our next destination is Samarqand.

We are now in Uzbekistan.

 In front of the airplane is the Kattakurgon Reservoir, a barrier lake.

and in the final, far away we can see some high mountains, the precursors of the Himalaya.

The next leg leads us into the high mountains of Pakistan, to Gilgit OPGT.
